Student Leaders
"Student Success Seminar"

Student leaders are not born!

Contrary to popular opinion, leaders are not born, they’re trained and developed. Even the country’s top student leaders weren’t always great leaders. Instead, these students made the journey from college student to “student leader” by making the most of their talents, learning and applying new skills, and developing their leadership abilities.

Through this training process, they learned new ways to influence, motivate, and build relationships. They conquered problems and setbacks that would have stifled others. And through experience and leadership development, they learned how to create and inspire powerful teams.

Empower your student leaders!

The Student Success Seminar is designed to empower student leaders to make a difference. This seminar is full of real world examples, practical methods and proven strategies. Every one of the seven sessions is packed with ideas and tips that will help your student leaders produce results immediately on your campus, as well as in the classroom. So whether your students are experienced leaders looking for new ways to motivate others or novices wanting to enhance their leadership role – this powerful program is one you don’t want your students to miss.

Session 1: Making Your Vision Come Alive
Focus: Your Purpose

As a student leader, you may already know what to do and how to lead…but you will eventually flounder if you’re either doing the right things for the wrong reasons or the wrong things for the right reasons. We’re talking about purpose…your road map to success…and the “why” behind effective leadership. In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Find your purpose for leading.
  • Define your team’s purpose.
  • Get everyone on your team moving in the same direction.

Session 2: Getting Others to Give it Their All!
Focus: Your Motivational Skills

Your success as a student leader is measured by your ability to lead people where they need to go. But in order to take your team to the “promise land,” you must first get them to want to go. You will learn some powerful strategies that will help you inspire, motivate, and become an authentic role model for those you lead. In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Lead by example instead of excuses.
  • Get your team excited about following you.
  • Get your team to accept responsibility for their actions.

Session 3: Solving Problems Like a Leader
Focus: Your Problem Solving Skills

One of your most difficult roles as a student leader probably isn’t the job itself…it’s that of a problem solver. As you develop as a leader, you’ll be presented with more and more opportunities to either prove yourself or expose your weaknesses. This session will help you logically sort through the complexities of problems and develop win-win solutions. You will learn how to:

  • View problems as opportunities instead of obstacles.
  • Help your team solve their own problems.
  • Keep your composure when you’re facing a crisis.

Session 4: Developing a Winning Attitude
Focus: Your Personal Attitude

Your attitude about yourself will determine your attitude about others. And your attitude about others will determine your attitude about your organization. How you communicate with yourself on a consistent basis will determine your effectiveness as a leader. In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Take control of you mental and emotional attitude.
  • Create enthusiasm in your organization that’s contagious.
  • Use your attitude to build loyalty and trust.

Session 5: Becoming the Complete Team Player
Focus: Your Teamwork Skills

When it comes to leadership, there’s no such thing as a self-made success. The moment you think you can do it alone is the moment you’ll be doing it alone. There’s no “I” in the word “TEAM,” and the speed of the leader will determine the rate of the pack. You need others and they need you. In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Put the team’s needs before your own.
  • Share the spotlight with others so all of you will shine.
  • Become your team’s biggest cheerleader as well as their favorite coach.

Session 6: Connecting with Your Peers
Focus: Your Communication Skills

Eighty-seven (87%) percent of all success in any organization is directly related to people skills. Even if you’re the hardest working and most gifted person on your team, no one will follow you unless they first trust and like you. Even if you’re not a “people person,” you can still be an effective leader. In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Get others to give you what you need to succeed.
  • Build credibility and mutual respect with your team.
  • Get along with almost anybody any time.

Session 7: Putting It All Together
Focus: Your Personal Needs and Campus Challenges

If two heads are better than one, this session will be one of the most powerful. James and Joe both will answer specific questions about ideas, strategies, and insights shared in the previous six sessions. Individual student leaders will have a chance to address specific needs as they relate to his or her specific situation. Others will also share what’s working or not working on their campus. In this session, get ready to:

  • Discuss the first action you will take when you return to your campus
  • Discuss their biggest challenge you face on you campus.
  • Discuss the one area you must improve in order to become an effective leader.
